From Amsterdam to Moscow: a Managerial Finance course for GSCM students by Prof. Dennis Vink

GSCM Masters’ students explored “Managerial Finance: How to Measure and Manage the Value of Companies”, taught online by Prof. Dennis Vink, PhD (Nyenrode Business Universiteit).

During three online sessions, students thoroughly examined how to employ various tools of financial analysis in order to assess the potential risks and increase the performance of the company. However, the course’s focus was not only to provide the learners with methodological principles but also to enable them to become real decision-makers. In the world of business, modern professionals find that their personal effectiveness is increasingly determined by their ability to convince management of the validity of their views and ideas. The purpose therefore consisted in enabling the participants to create the financial part of a well-argued business case that is in line with the strategic objectives and enables them to make a well-founded pitch for management.

During the classes, students examined and discussed numerous business-cases, presented their assignments and developed a final project: a detailed report on a comprehensive financial analysis of a real case, ready to be pitched upon the board.

Dennis Vink, PhD is a Full Professor of Finance and Investment and is a member of the Academic Board at Nyenrode Business Universiteit. He graduated at Harvard Business School and is a Visiting Professor of Finance at Technical University of Denmark, Stellenbosch School of Business in South Africa, and SPJIMR in India.
