IMTA 2022 Concluded with Great Success

This week, the 21st edition of IMTA successfully concluded at IEDC-Bled School of Management. 20 participants from 11 different countries joined us in Bled for just under two weeks to build upon their existing teaching experiences and learn how to continue to grow in their various roles as management educators.

At CEEMAN, we take pride in the community we have built with our member institutions and friends over the past 30 years. Our alumni hold a special place in our hearts. IMTA- International Management Teachers Academy has well over 700 alumni and a strong community of extremely dedicated educators.

The purpose of IMTA, a major European faculty development program, is to address the need for faculty development in the area of management education and leadership development in dynamic societies. “IMTA is a creative answer to an increasing need for high-quality education of new generations of professors who will educate new generations of effective and responsible leaders”, says Prof. Danica Purg, President of CEEMAN and IEDC-Bled School of Management.

IMTA’s faculty consists of professors who have worked at top international educational institutions and are eager to pass on their knowledge to a new generation of teachers. Including the 2022 generation, IMTA has more than 700 alumni from 175 institutions and 53 countries around the world. The program has proven to not only have a profound impact on the individual careers of its participants, but also on overall teaching and learning experiences at participating institutions.

With select sessions redesigned and upgraded, IMTA 2022 followed the well-tested approach of acquainting participants with general aspects from the field of teaching management in Week 1, whereas Week 2 had them split into discipline-specific tracks for a deep dive into Marketing Management, Strategic & International Management and Leading Change respectively. With prof. Jim Ellert continuing in his role as IMTA Academic Director, the faculty is compiled by internationally acclaimed professors and IMTA veterans JB Kassarjian, Joe Pons and Krzysztof Obłój.

After a dynamic first week about the general aspects of teaching and an afternoon trip to vibrant Ljubljana, the IMTA 2022 cohort spent Week 2 in their respective tracks delving deep into the various ways in which they can incorporate the case method into their teaching. The participants were divided into the following tracks:

  • The Challenges and Paradoxes of Leading Change with Prof. JB Kassarjian, Professor of Management, Emeritus at Babson College, US and Professor of Strategy and Organization, Emeritus at IMD Lausanne, Switzerland and Babson College, US.
  • Strategic and International Management with Prof. Krzysztof Obłój, Professor of Strategic Management at the University of Warsaw and Kozminski University, Poland
  • Marketing Management with Prof. Joe Pons, President of AXIOMA Marketing Consultants and previously Marketing Professor at IESE International Graduate School of Management, Spain

The long-awaited comeback edition of IMTA then concluded with IMTA Academic Director Jim Ellert and IMTA faculty sharing key takeaways from their teaching career in a plenary session, a festive graduation ceremony and a closing dinner at a traditional restaurant in nearby Radovljica.
