TIMES HIGHER EDUCATION RANKED RTU AMONG 600 BEST UNIVERSITIES IN ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY IN THE WORLD

The World University Rankings 2019 by subject: Engineering and Technology covers 903 leading global universities in engineering, energy and electronics, mechanics and aeronautics, civil engineering and chemical engineering. In the ranking of engineering and technology, the University of Oxford (United Kingdom) is ranked first, followed by the University of Stanford and the University of Harvard (both from the United States). Among the Baltic States, Kaunas University of Technology is included in the group of 801+, as well as Tallinn University of Technology, likewise RTU, takes place among 501–600 universities.

The World University Rankings 2019 by subject: Computer Science evaluates the performance of universities in computer science and totally includes 684 universities. RTU is ranked among 601+ universities. Among the other Baltic States, the University of Tartu and Tallinn University of Technology are also ranked. The first place in the rating of computer science is taken by Oxford University, followed by the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich and Cambridge University (the United Kingdom).

The rankings assess the performance of higher education institutions according to the five main indicators, which are further analysed in terms of 13 different criteria. In terms of industry ratings, universities are ranked based on the specifics of particular areas. University cooperation with the industry in the ranking is assessed by how much income the university has gained from knowledge transfer. The science criterion takes into account the results of a reputation survey, university income from research and its productivity. The internationalization criterion assesses the proportion of foreign students and academic staff as well as international cooperation in research based on the citation indicators of scientific publications. Performance in studies is evaluated based on the reputation survey results, the ratio of the number of students to academic staff, the proportion of academic staff possessing a doctoral degree, and other indicators. In turn, citation or the impact of research reveals the role of universities in the creation and dissemination of new knowledge and ideas.
