150th Anniversary of Riga Technical University

This year Riga Technical University celebrates its 150th Anniversary. RTU (originally Riga Polytechnicum) is the first tertiary education establishment in the territory of Latvia and the oldest technical university in the Baltic States. It was founded on 14 October, 1862, following the model of the Western polytechnic institutes and the best traditions of that time.

Various scientific, culture and sports events, which involve university students, employees and academic staff as well as the general public, are organised throughout the year to celebrate the 150thAnniversary. Many major events will be held before the Anniversary. We invite our partners and friends from other universities to take part in these events!

This year International Scientific Conference traditionally organised by RTU will be dedicated to the 150th Anniversary of RTU. It will be held from 11 till 12 October. The aim of the conference is to inform both local and foreign scientists, public and entrepreneurs on recent scientific achievements in Latvia and abroad, as well as to provide an opportunity for scientists and Doctoral students in particular to publish the results of their research.

For the first time in the history of RTU the world congress of engineers and alumni of Riga Polytechnic Institute/Riga Technical University (RPI/RTU) will take place along with the scientific conference. It will unite engineers, technologists, scientists and entrepreneurs, providing an opportunity to share experience and knowledge as well as to present entrepreneurship success stories and the latest engineering and technological solutions.  For more information see conference web-page.

Grand Gala Concert will be the culmination of the celebration of the 150th Anniversary of RTU. All employees, members of the academic staff, students and alumni of Riga Technical University are invited to Arena Riga at 5 p. m. on 14 October, 2012.   The development and achievements of the oldest technical university in the Baltic States throughout the chequered history will be reflected in the musical performance and the artistic video projection created by Robert Rubīns at the grand concert «Keep Creating!».  The Latvian National Symphony Orchestra directed by Aleksandr Viļumanis, RTU choirs «Gaudeamus» and «Delta», wind instrument orchestra «SPO», folk dance groups «Vektors» and «Dancis», as well as such world famous music stars of Latvian descent as Baiba Skride, Vestards ?imkus, Inga Kalna and Ksenija Sidorova will take part in the concert.

We cordially invite all RTU alumni to take part in the event. Learn more about opportunities to get the invitation at www.rtu.lv/150.

Let us celebrate the 150th anniversary of the oldest technical university in the Baltic States together!
