5th Annual Academic Conference: Debating Borders, Boundaries, and Barriers in the 21st Century

On March 23-24, LCC International University will be hosting a multidisciplinary conference entitled Borders, Boundaries, and Barriers: New Paradigms for the Twenty-first Century

On March 23-24, LCC International University will be hosting a multidisciplinary conference entitled Borders, Boundaries, and Barriers: New Paradigms for the Twenty-first Century.

According to the conference's Call for Papers, this cross-disciplinary event will bring together scholars from Lithuania, North America, and Europe to present research, debate issues, share ideas, generate new questions, and rigorously reflect on the contemporary notion of boundaries in the twenty-first century, as reflected in diverse academic disciplines.

After ideologies collapsed and borders shifted twenty years ago, a new era of globalization and economic freedom was heralded. Today, however, the dream of a new era remains largely unrealized: borders are ever more ubiquitous and hostile, the freedom of technology comes at the price of personal privacy, globalization separates humanity and isolates individuals. Boundaries, barriers, and borders between academic and professional disciplines, industries, faith and tradition are breaking down making the world smaller through travel, communication, and trade. These issues will be discussed from the different perspectives of various disciplines such as education, politics, natural science, ecology, sociology, psychology, theology, philosophy, language, literature, and the arts.

"LCC has invited Dr. Lauran Dale Bethell, a global consultant working to prevent human trafficking and exploitation, as as one for the plenary speakers for the conference. As an advocate for women who have been exploited and abused, she serves organizations and governments worldwide, encouraging the development of new projects dealing with the issues of prostitution and human trafficking", says Dr. Robin Gingerich, Co-Chair of the conference.

Academic researchers and university teachers, intellectuals working outside of academia as well as students are encouraged to apply and to participate. The Call for Papers is still open through February 20. For individuals interested in submitting an abstract for a paper or a poster session, more information is available on the LCC website. Early registration for the conference runs through March 9.
