BA School of Business and Finance was awarded ECTS Label
On June 3, at official ceremony BA School of Business and Finance was awarded ECTS Label and the trophy. It is an honorary distinction showing that the institution applies ECTS correctly, both in terms of published information on its website and in terms of ECTS documents for student mobility.Thus,the European Commission awards labels to Higher Education Institutions that apply the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System and the Diploma Supplement correctly in all respects. It follows the decision passed by EC Executive Agency on Label selections for 2013.
Applicants for the ECTS/DS Labels can apply if they have been awarded Erasmus University Charter. BA School of Business and Finance received the renewed Erasmus University Charter for the new programme Erasmus + on December 11, 2013. The ECTS and Diploma Supplement Labels are honorary distinctions. The School has become the first higher educational institution in Latvia to be awarded the ECTS Label.
“The decision to award the ECTS Label to BA School of Business and Finance confirms that the School offers high quality study programmes and that the principles of the Bologna Process have been successfully implemented. The honorary award certifies that it is an important international event and honour for Latvia, it acknowledges that we have been rated among one of the best higher educational institutions”, points out Andris Sarnovics, the rector of BA School of Business and Finance.
“In times when students around EU tend to increase level of mobility, BA School of Business and Finance highlighted openness, professionalism and provision of international study environment, as the main areas of study process. The award received confirms that School implements study programmes based on learning outcomes in terms of knowledge, skills and competences and that European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System is carried out during the whole study process.” states the rector.
“The road towards achieving this award has not been easy. It confirms that the School applies ECTS system, publishes its Course Catalogue on the website; it includes detailed descriptions of study programmes and course units. Course descriptions contain ‘learning outcomes’. It ensures transparency and comparability of education and qualifications. The Course Catalogue provides information on study programmes in Latvian and in English,” explains Sandra Kraze, EURASHE Council member, International Cooperation Project Manager of BA School of Business and Finance. She also stresses that academic staff facilitates the internationalisation of the School offering studies in Latvian and English. The Course Catalogue identifies the benefits and career opportunities of each study programme, thus marking the distinctions between them. The ECTS Course Catalogue consists of three parts: information on the institution, study programmes, regulations and student services. It is available in two languages: Latvian and English.
