On September 23 at the 19th CEEMAN Annual Conference Gala Dinner, the results of the 17th CEEMAN Case Writing Competition were announced.

The aim of the CEEMAN Case Writing Competition, established in 1996 and run in cooperation with Emerald Group Publishing since 2007, is to encourage and promote the development of high-quality case material relevant for the realities of transitional and emerging economies and at the same time promote the development of case-writing capabilities in those countries.

Starting from this year, the co-organizers also support global exposure of the submitted high-quality cases through a direct link with the Emerald Emerging Markets Case Studies collection, new for 2011.

A record number of 59 cases were admitted to the 2011 competition, written by 109 authors and co-authors from 60 institutions in 26 countries (Albania, Argentina, Austria, Brazil, Canada, China, Egypt, Estonia, Germany, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Italy, Lebanon, Malaysia, Pakistan, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Singapore, Switzerland, UK, United Arab Emirates, and the US).

After evaluating all cases according to the competition criteria and objectives, the evaluation committee has decided to distribute the award as follows:

  • Competition winner: Teaching Farmers to Hunt – Developing Commercial Skills at BDO Hungary by Zoltan Buzady, CEU Business School, Hungary
  • First runner-up: Deal of the day at Cherry.ee by Katri Kerem, Estonian Business School, Estonia and Dietmar Sternad, Carinthia University of Applied Sciences, Austria
  • Second runner-up: FieldTurf Tarkett India: Challenges and Opportunities in New Markets by Srividya Raghavan, IBS Hyderabad, India

The winner has received his EUR 2,500 prize and was the guest of the 19th CEEMAN Annual Conference inTbilisi, Georgia on 21-23 September, while the two runners-up will receive EUR 1,000 and EUR 500 respectively.

The winners and selected other cases will be considered for publication in the Emerald Emerging Markets Case Studies collection, and we hope to see many of these and other cases from the competition find their successful application in the classroom.
