CEEMAN in the 2nd Global Forum

CEEMAN took an active part in the 2nd Global Forum for Responsible Management Education organized by UN Global Compact PRME held on 23 June at Fordham University, New York.

In one of the plenary sessions of the event, which attracted 220 business schools leaders from 37 countries,  Milenko Gudić, IMTA Managing Director, presented CEEMAN mission, objectives, programs and activities, emphasizing that  all of them stem from a specific value platform that strongly resonate with the principles of responsible management education. The Forum participants expressed high interest in CEEMAN programs and activities, including CEEMAN International Quality Accreditation and IMTA - International Management Teachers Academy. PRME objective of creating a new generation of business leaders, who will better balance social and economic objectives, requires also a new generation of management educators capable of preparing future leaders for this challenge.

During the Forum, Al Rosenbloom, Dominican University, USA, one of the co-authors the CEEMAN/PRME Survey on Poverty as a Challenge for Management Education presented the preliminary results of the survey that was carried out in May/June 2010. At the PRME Deliverable Fair, Al Rosenbloom and Milenko Gudić, the other co-author, provided more details on the first global research of this kind, which was based upon 227 responses from 48 countries from all over the world. In its meeting on 22 June, the PRME Steering Committee welcomed CEEMAN as one of the co-conveners of the PRIME initiative. While commending the fact that CEEMAN members were among the first to join the initiative launched in July 2008 under the auspices of the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon, the Committee also acknowledged CEEMAN's leading role in the PRME Working Group on Fighting Poverty. The Steering Committee also took note on CEEMAN proposal to offer a platform for faculty development in the areas of CSR, sustainability, business ethics and other related areas.

The Forum endorsed a Declaration of the 2nd Global Forum for Responsible Management Education which reaffirms the commitment of the Forum participants, their institutions and associations to the PRME and set even higher aspirations for future.

Around 50 participants, including CEEMAN representative participated also in the UN Global Compact Leaders Summit 2010, which gathered 1,300 business and other leaders from 135 countries committed to the ten principles of the UN Global Compact. The event, opened by the UN Secretary General al Ban Ki-moon adpted by aclamation a special statement entitled the "New York Declaration by Business", which cites 10 key principles covering human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption principles that benefit both business and the overall society. These ten founding principles of the Global Compact were augmented by a Blueprint for Corporate Sustainability Leadership, presented for the first time at the Leaders Summit.
