EBS and Nottingham Trent University sign contract for joint degree programme

On January 10th EBS Rector professor Arno Almann signed a contract according to which EBS will open a joint dergee Master programme with Nottingham Trent University Business School in autumn 2013. Programme is called European Business and Finance.

EBS Master’s students applying for the 2013 autumn semester will be able to study for a joint degree from EBS and Nottingham Business School (Trent University) in the UK when the new English Master’s programme Joint Master of Science (MSc) European Business and Finance will open.

EBS Rector Arno Almann says, this is yet again another step towards internationalization and offering EBS students education that makes them more competitive in the international labor market. "According to our knowledge, non of the other Estonian universities have a joint program with foreign universities. EBS and NTU joint programme meets the quality requirements of Estonian as well as British higher education, students can study in Tallinn and Nottingham and gain joint diploma signed by both universities," said Almann.

According to Professor Katri Kerem, the manager of the new programme, the aim of the joint MSc degree in European Business and Finance is to develop managers capable of working in a pan-European cross-cultural business environment. “The main focus for this programme is put on courses that cover different business-related subjects taking into consideration examples from Europe and the world. It is essential that the students see the bigger picture and are able to use the knowledge gained in classes in an international context,” says Kerem.

Students who are accepted into the new programme in 2013 will spend their first year at EBS, the first half of the second year at Nottingham and will return to Estonia for the last semester to write their Master’s Thesis. When graduating, the students receive a joint diploma signed by both universities.  “The programme is adjusted and confirmed by both universities, also the faculty has gone through training sessions to make the teaching process acceptable for both, Estonian and British requirements,” explained Kerem.

In addition to the new Master’s joint programme, EBS also has a double degree programme at the Bachelor’s level. This is intended for International Business Administration programme Bachelor’s students who have the opportunity to study two years in EBS followed by two years in Lancaster University Management School in England where after successfully completing their studies, they receive degrees from both universities.
