EBS has announced elections for the position of the Rector

Estonian Business School

The suitable candidate for the position of the Rector of EBS shall have a Doctor´s degree or a qualification equal to it; he/she has been elected for the position of a professor, and has a successful experience in management and international collaboration.  The academic requirements for the candidate result from the Universities Act, but the requirement for management and international collaboration experience is related to the specific nature of the university - says a founder of the university, Madis Habakuk. “I think it essential for the candidate for the position of the Rector to have management experience. In the case of a small university there are fewer options for the delegation of decision-making within the competence of the Rector , thus the successful candidate must have the necessary competencies in the field of general management, marketing, financial management and personnel management”, commented Mr Habakuk.

According to Madis Habakuk, one of the priorities of EBS for the next five years is the development of international collaboration. ”We would like to increase the number of foreign students up to 50% of the total number of students and offer the students options for exchange studies on all the continents and in good universities.  We would also like to continue work in the Finnish market and in South-East Asia. It is therefore important that the Rector to be elected would have the experience of international collaboration and personal network in Estonia and abroad,” described Madis Habakuk the main challenges of the new Rector.

The applicants for the position of the Rector of EBS will have to submit to the election panel the following documents: an application, a biography, credentials about the academic qualification, and achievements in the field of management and international collaboration. The new Rector will be elected on 7th June by the election panel, which is set up by the Board of Management of Estonian Business School.

Estonian Business School was founded in 1988 and is the oldest educational concern in the Baltic States that is offering business education.  EBS has become one of the biggest private universities in the Baltic States that is approved by the State and offers tuition on the level of secondary education, tertiary education - Bachelor´s-, Master´s- and Doctoral programme; and in the field of complementary training. All the study programmes successfully passed the state level transition assessment of higher education in 2011.

The aim of the school, with its 1,500 students, is to educate active and entrepreneurial people, and enhance their ability to successfully apply the acquired knowledge. More than 15% of all the EBS students are foreign students. In 2011, EBS opened its branch in Finland, with approximately 100 Bachelor´s level students. There are exchange students from Finland, Italy, France, China, Australia, Spain and many other countries every year. EBS has collaboration agreements with more than 70 universities worldwide that enables a broad based exchange of students and lecturers.
