EBS students take part in L'Oréal marketing competition Brandstorm

On March 16th took place the Estonian Business School finals of the international L’Oréal student marketing competition Brandstorm. 16 teams from EBS took part in the competition. Three teams were chosen who received an opportunity to take part in the Baltic finals, taking place on April 26th in Riga.

Team Mad Men

For the EBS finals the teams of three had to prepare a 15 minute presentation on the marketing analysis for L’Oréal's premium brand Body Shop and come up with an idea for an innovative new product to be added to the existing Body Shop lineup. The three best presentations were given by teams Cherry Pickers, 3starts and Mad Men. 

The presented ideas were very different and varied from toothpastes to hair colours. Since the competition took place as part of English language International Business Administration course Marketing and Sales, most of the participants were students from outside Estonia, which made the competition even more interesting. The chosen target markets varied from Asia to Italy and France. The teams were evaluated by the jury of three representatives from L’Oréal and three from EBS.

 

The goal of the L’Oréal Brandstorm competition is to offer an opportunity for students from across the world to live a real life marketing experience through revamping an existing L’Oréal brand. The game requires students to analyze current market conditions, design products and identify niche opportunities for their products to create a thorough marketing campaign. This year, the competition concentrated on The Body Shop brand, last year on marketing the L’Oréal Professionnel hairstyling products for men. 

Since its creation in 1993 over 43,000 students from more than 285 of the world’s top business schools in 43 countries have already taken part in the L’Oréal Brandstorm marketing game. The International L’Oréal Brandstorm Finals take place in Paris on 13th – 14th June 2012 when all the winners of the regions’ finals will be competing for the prize of 10,000€.
