International Scientific-Practical Conference at Šiauliai University
“Good Governance in Local Self-Government: European and National Trends”
On Friday-Saturday, October 12-13, 2012 the International-Practical Conference was held at Siauliai University Library (Lithuania). The representatives from 14 countries (the USA, Germany, France, Hungary, Poland, Check Republic, Slovakia, Croatia, Latvia, etc.) discussed, shared their experience and insights on the expression of principles of Good Governance in local government, i.e. promotion of social cooperation between science, business, government and society, transparency, responsibility, accountability.
The Head of department of Public administration prof. dr. Diana Šaparnienė says that it is necessary to talk about local government and look for the ways how to solve its problems.
The majority of the international conference participants have analyzed the issues of Good Governance when the governmental institutions work effectively, when representatives of the government are accountable to the society, and involve the citizens and other social partners into the management.
