As of autumn next year, bachelor’s students at ISM University of Management and Economics will be offered the opportunity to participate in an exchange programme with Illinois University in Chicago, USA. ISM is the only university in the Baltic countries with which Illinois University will have an exchange programme.

‘We see a great value in the emerging relations with this strong and well-known university and hope for mutually beneficial exchange. The AACSB accreditation that Illinois University has is one of the three most important business university accreditations in the world and only the best universities can get it’, Dr Nerijus Pačėsa, rector of ISM, said.

Grounds for the new partnership with this famous US university were laid during the recent visit of the ISM rector to the United States of America. In March this year, Dr Pačėsa, together with the Lithuanian Minister of Education and Science and a delegation of heads of Lithuanian establishments of higher education, went to the United States of America where they visited Boston and Chicago and had meetings with representatives of the MIT Sloan School of Management, Harvard and Illinois universities, scientific centres, and the Lithuanian-American community. According to the rector, the meeting with the heads of Illinois University was held in a sincere atmosphere of cooperation and exchange opportunities were discussed right away. The representatives of Illinois University were especially interested in the ISM Summer University in the Baltics project.

The exchange programme with Illinois University in Chicago will be open to all third- and fourth-year bachelor’s students of ISM. Illinois University has campuses in three cities, i.e. Chicago, Springfield and Urbana-Champaign. Eleven scientists of the university have been awarded the Nobel Prize. Illinois University in Chicago has over 2,300 faculty and 25,000 students.

According to Dr Nerijus Pačėsa, ISM is continuing a planned partnership strategy that includes making exchange and cooperation agreements with the best universities in the world. ‘Since we have strong partners from all over Europe, our current priority is to expand our university partnership network in the USA and Asia’, the rector of ISM said. Today the ISM University of Management and Economics has approximately 100 exchange partners from all over the world. Until recently ISM had only two partners from North America: Monfort College of Business, University of North Carolina (USA) and Quebec University in Montreal (Canada).

During this school year, 137 students of ISM went to study abroad on exchange programmes. Most of them chose Scandinavian and Western European universities for that purpose, and some became exchange students in Japan, South Korea, Australia, Singapore, Argentina and Peru. Eighteen students chose to study at foreign universities according to a double degree programme offered by ISM and another foreign university. Those students will be granted a double degree after a year of studies at BI Norwegian Business School, HEC Management School (Liege University, Belgium), or INSEEC Bordeaux, the University of Paris, or Euromed Management (France).

This school year 104 foreign exchange students, mostly from France, Portugal, Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, South Korea, Singapore and the USA, came to study at ISM.
