President of Caucasus University become an President-Elect of IAUP

On June 14, President of Caucasus University Dr. Kakha Shengelia was elected as the 2014-2017 President-Elect of "International Association of University presidents". 

Transition to the new IAUP presidency took place  at the meeting of the General Assembly on  the occasion of the IAUP VXIII Triennial Conference “Creating Future of Higher  Education” held  from 11-14 June, 2014 Yokohama, Japan.

As a candidate, Dr. Kakha Shengelia was recommended to the General Assembly by the IAUP Governing Board, supported by the consensus of the Executive Committee. The proposed candidature was elected anonymously by the members of IAUP General Assembly.

During the next three years Dr. Shengelia will act as a leader of the aforementioned organization and will gradually assimilate the responsibilities of the president. At the next meeting of the General Assembly on the occasion of  IAUP 2017 Triennial Conference he will automatically become the next president of IAUP for years 2017-2020. 

Since 2010, CU is an active member of the international organization “International Association of University Presidents". Dr. Shengelia serves as an IAUP Regional Chair of South-Eastern Europe & Caucasus Council. 

The International Association of University Presidents (IAUP) is an association of university chief executives from higher education institutions around the world. IAUP was founded in 1964 and holds the highest (ECOSOC) consultation rights at the United Nations and formal consultation rights with UNESCO.

The primary purpose of IAUP is to strengthen the international mission and quality of education of these institutions in an ever-increasing interdependent world, and to promote global awareness, competence, peace and international understanding through education. It is a unique worldwide platform which facilitates the exchange of professional experience through conferences, seminars, publications, and various commissions.
