According to Madis Habakuk, the Founder of EBS and Chairman of the Election Committee, the main criteria for selection were the management and leadership skills of the candidate. “During the last six months as Acting Rector of EBS, Arno Almann has been a great example as leader of the EBS team as well as of the whole organisation. We also took into consideration his experience as an expert in the Estonian higher education evaluation process, which is extremely relevant at this point,“ says Habakuk.

Professor Arno Almann said that it was important for him as Rector to continue his work with the internationalisation process of EBS. “EBS is the only private specialised university in Estonia, and in this role university we have assured the quality of education needed and have undertaken research to support it. My goal as Rector is to maintain the values and quality of EBS and help the students to succeed in the international labour market. For that EBS needs to develop cooperation with the best universities in Estonia and abroad, and also with leading local and international companies,” said Almann.

Professor Almann was born on October 22nd, 1950. He defended his Doctoral Thesis at Tallinn Technical University in 1999. Almann has worked in different leading positions in both the public and private sectors, research organisations and as a European Union and World Bank expert in Central and Eastern Europe, as well as Central Asia. He has contributed to the development of numerous laws that have ensured the regaining of Estonian independence and the development of the Estonian justice system.

Having worked in EBS since 1997, Professor Almann became a full professor in 2001 and the Head of the Department of Law and Public Administration. He has been repeatedly elected as the Best Lecturer by the students. Arno Almann has been Acting Rector of EBS since January, 2012.
