RTU FEEM analysing most common stress activity: Erasmus+ project IMPRESS results

Within the framework of the Erasmus+ Key Action 2: “Cooperation for innovation and the exchange of good practices” Knowledge Alliances Program project No. 588315-EPP-1-2017-ES-EPPKA2-KA “Improving management competences on Excellence based Stress avoidance and working towards Sustainable organizational development in Europe – IMPRESS” the stress survey of employees was conducted by the research members in four EU countries – Germany, Spain, Ireland/England and Latvia.

In total, 856 respondents participated in the survey, out of them,  286 respondents from Latvia. At the RTU 59th Scientific Conference on Economics and Entrepreneurship (SCEE’2018) the project team member Zane Rostoka presented the results of the stress survey of employees for Latvia.

The main results for Latvia are: High strain level (‘to a great degree’ and ‘to a very great degree’) was stated by 2.1% of the participants, High Engagement and satisfaction in the work was stated by 56.8% of the participants. The resource ‘Clarity and Control’ had higher frequency level than the resource ‘Leadership and social support’; at the same time ‘Leadership and social support’ has more influence on ‘Well-being and strain’. The stressors ‘Organizational climate and cooperation’, ‘Roles and responsibilities’, and ‘Working conditions and workflows’  have  the biggest influence on each ‘well-being and strain’ as well as on ‘engagement and satisfaction’. The results of the survey will be used for further implementation of the project activities.

IMPRESS goal is to provide coaching/teaching modules and self-assessment tools, which allow organisations to identify risk factors and implement preventive practices, individual and organisational solutions for stressors at organisational, team and individual level.

The objective of IMPRESS project is to enable business professionals to gain a perspective on work related stress issues. This includes how they impact in all aspects of the business including management style, cost of absenteeism, work organization and organizational structure, work-life balance, demographic changes, the upgrading of unskilled and skilled workers, information overflow, stress caused by poor fit with physical and mental health issues.
