RTU FEEM Develops “Cambridge Venture Camp” Program

In November 2015, representatives of the administration and academic staff of Riga Technical University, Faculty of Engineering and Management (RTU FEEM) participated in a working visit to the UK, which took place in Cambridge, in Anglia Ruskin University (ARU), which in 2014 won the Entrepreneurial University of the Year Award in the UK. During the visit, the parties discussed the perspectives of cooperation between the two universities in the field of studies and research.

During the meeting, Dr. Andy Salmon, Pro Vice Chancellor of ARU described the university focus on interdisciplinary activities. In the discussions with Simon Down, Deputy Dean, Research and Enterprise of Lord Ashcroft Business School of ARU possible common interests and projects were identified. The initiator of cooperation Professor Alan Barrell, who is a businessman and also Entrepreneur in Residence in the Center for Entrepreneurial Learning, Judge Business School, University of Cambridge, participated in the meeting.
During the visit, the parties discussed and developed the study trip plan to Cambridge within the “Cambridge Venture Camp” program for students of RTU FEEM and other Latvia universities; this program was launched in September 2015.
Within the framework of the program, 40 Latvian university students have been accepted in Cambridge and they have already started developing their business ideas. During the planned visit, the students will participate in lectures, receive advice from mentors, meet businesspeople, visit enterprises and business support institutions located in Cambridge.
In 2016, RTU FEEM in collaboration with Anglia Ruskin University (UK), Kymenlaakso University of Applied Sciences (Finland) and KHLeuven/Leuven University College (Belgium) is planning to prepare a joint international project for the development of business ecosystem and creation of a new study module on business start-up.
