Transition to online learning during the 2019-nCOv pandemic: research findings

Organizing full-time learning with online technology during the pandemic posed challenges for educators in Kazakhstan and worldwide. In this situation, the Eurasian Center for Economics and Law Research of Narxoz School of Law and Public Policy has looked at the transition to online learning at Narxoz University from the perspective of students and faculty.

A report on the results of the study “Emergency Online” consists of two parts:

●      Part I analyzes the opinions of the faculty, highlights technical and methodological aspects, and also provides recommendations for universities and the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

●      Part II looks at the experiences of students with the new learning format and the difficulties they faced, as well as possible ways to improve the quality of education under the current circumstances.

Access to quality education and the modernization of education in general are one of the long-term priorities for the country. Kazakhstan-2050 Strategy involves the introduction of innovations, including online education, in the education system. Now, in the context of an emergency transition to online learning, it is necessary to review in detail the experience of implementing tools on a large scale.

The problem of the quality of education in this situation is equally acute for all educational institutions of Kazakhstan. We would like to share the findings with all stakeholders in the field of education - from management and faculty of universities to the experts of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan - and invite everyone to cooperate and develop effective solutions to improve the quality of education.
