UDG continues its partnership with company Turnitin

University of Donja Gorica will continue its cooperation with the company Turnitin in the following period through a new solution in the fight against academic plagiarism

Model of studies at UDG is based on rules and procedures aimed at introducing students with the importance of academic integrity and preventive action. Introducing students to the rules influences students to become aware of the importance of academic integrity, and their consistent application to understand that they are responsible for disobeying those rules whether consciously or unconsciously.

The high standards and preservation of academic integrity at UDG are recognized by the company Turnitin, which has been offering the best solutions in the field of academic integrity protection at the global level for more than 20 years. Up until now, UDG used Turnitin's Ithenticate software, and during the next period, UDG will use Turnitin's new software adapted not only for research work but also for work with students - Similarity Turnitin. Similarity is a solution that represents one of the best software used to test the level of matching of author's works with already published texts. It is used by more than 80 universities from the list of the top 100 best universities in the world. It is a very sensitive software that shows the overlap of text in author's works with published works in a wide range of databases in all South Slovenian and foreign languages. Software is an important tool that helps in the fight against plagiarism and at UDG it is understood as a significant additional mechanism for verifying authorship of students' final papers. Each master's and doctoral thesis at UDG undergoes software testing, and only after that is it approved in a procedure that is clearly defined by the rules at the appropriate level of study. In addition, Reports on the level of matching of master's and doctoral theses are an integral part of the documentation on the basis of which their defense is approved.

The rules defining the issues of academic integrity at UDG are in line with the national regulatory framework in this area and international recommendations, and the set criteria are often set at a level that is higher than the usual standards. Only such a system of work during studies, which in all segments is dedicated to the development of academic integrity, results in high ethical principles that graduates will respect and build in their private and work environment.
