We are thrilled to have won the CEEMAN & Emerald Case Writing Competition and have found the case study writing process to be a richly rewarding collaborative experience. The competition, and platform created by its international reach, provided us with an excellent opportunity to bring awareness to the practical challenges faced in a South African ‘start-up’ space. While drawing on our content knowledge and research ability, the process also forced us to reflect on how we teach and present information to our students. Our primary aim was to get our students more engaged with the theoretical content in a practical manner and we hope that many other educators will be able to benefit, much like we have, from this case study. Thank you to the reviewer(s) who provided feedback, and to Emerald for providing the platform and resources to guide our writing.” Carlos De Jesus, Jason Ker-Fox, and Phuti Senyatsi

“I am very grateful for the opportunity to have presented this case to the CEEMAN & Emerald Case Writing Competition and for the prize and recognition. Automation is an important topic within the wider digital transformation journey and it is especially important that we share this through a South African lens. I would like to thank the UCT GSB for the support throughout the process as well as thank Dimension Data for their participation and willingness to share insights.” Michelle Karim

“The competition from the submissions to the CEEMAN and Emerald Case Writing Competition has certainly increased over the last years, and it is therefore a great honour to be recognised with our case.  Michelle did a great job of developing a case which introduces the new technology to the lay person, but highlights some of the human interface challenges that are critical to successful implementation.  This case should be widely applicable to many business school programmes as a result.” Geoff Bick

“Robots will become a permanent feature of high performing teams and the impact on group emotions and team dynamics an interesting research area. The pandemic highlighted the benefits of human and robots’ complementary roles” Christina Swart-Opperman
