Success of the 2nd International Student Conference "Theory and Practice: Student Insights"

On 14th November, 2013, the second international student conference "Theory and Practice: Student Insights“ took place in Kaunas, Lithuania. The conference was organised in collaboration between Baltic Management Development Association (BMDA) and Kolping University of Applied Sciences. The conference was sponsored by AB "Linas".

The international bachelor student conference was an exceptional event, which not only developed students‘ academic abilities of applying theoretical knowledge and practical skills, such as preparing articles, public speaking, and the English language, but also provided a unique possibility for Lithuanian and foreign students to meet each other, share experiences, develop skills of reasoning, encouraged independence and constructive thinking.

For the conference, 28 students from 7 countries  - Lithuania, Germany, Italy, Spain, Hungary, Kazakhstan, and Czech Republic -  prepared presentations and participated at the conference. They represented 18 higher education institutions: Aleksandras Stulginskis University (Lithuania), Brno University of Defense (Czech Republic),  Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingostadt (Germany), International Academy of Business (Kazakhstan), ISM University of Management and Economics (Lithuania), Kaunas Forestry and Environmental Engineering University of Applied Sciences (Lithuania), Kaunas University of Applied Engineering Sciences (Lithuania), Kaunas University of Applied Sciences (Lithuania), Kaunas University of Technology (Lithuania), Klaipeda State College (Lithuania), Kolping University of Applied Sciences (Lithuania), Lithuanian Military Academy (Lithuania),  Lithuanian Sports University (Lithuania), Università degli Studi di Sassari (Italy), Universita’ Federico II Di Napoli (Italy), University of Extremadura (Spain), University of Szeged (Hungary), Vilnius University (Lithuania).

In the plenary meeting, presentations in the English language were made. Lina Kalibataitė, the director of the Kolping University of Applied Sciences, made the presentation “Adolpf Kolping: The Charisma of a Shepherd“. Dr. Virginijus Kundrotas, president of Baltic Management Development Association (BMDA) and dean of Adizes Graduate School (USA) made a presentation “Integration - the Key Success Factor for Any Organization“. Students of Kolping University of Applied Sciences also made presentations on their visits to Denmark and Malta, where they went via Erasmus student exchange program of Lifelong Learning program.

During the conference, 56 students made 45 presentations. All the presentations were divided into 4 thematic working groups: “The Challenges for Business Community During the Time of Uncertainty“, “The Importance of Social Work Studies in Modern Society: Student Experience and Prospect”, “The Role of Young Specialists in Development of Law”, and Creativity in Language Learning“. In each thematic working group, the following 4 presentations were elected for the nomination of the best presentation in the thematic groups:

In the working group “The Challenges for Business Community During the Time of Uncertainty“, the best presentation award was nominated to Antanas Šimkus and Aida Barkauskaitė, presentation title “Analysis of Corporate Deposit Market Change Trends In Lithuania“, Kaunas University of Technology (Lithuania);

In the working group  “The Importance of Social Work Studies in Modern Society: Student Experience and Prospect, the best presentation award was nominated to Dovydas Daunys and Gintarė Juškaitė, presentation title “Internship in Community Pharmacy of Malta Under Erasmus Program“, Kaunas University of Applied Sciences (Lithuania);

In the working group  “The Role of Young Specialists in Development of Law”, the best presentation award was nominated to Kristina Urbonaitė, presentation title “Interpretation of the Student‘s Point of View to Justice as a Value“, Klaipeda State College (Lithuania);

In the working group “Creativity in Language Learning”, the best presentation award was nominated to Branka Petković and Aleš Valnoha, presentation title "Civilian and Military Studies at the University of Defence", the Faculty of Economic and Management, University of Defence (Czech Republic).

In the book of conference articles “Theory and Practice: Student Insights”, 31 student article was published. Among all the articles, the 4 best articles were nominated:

Mantas Didžiulis, article title “The Main Powers of Auditor‘s Ethics”, ISM University of Management or Economics (Lithuania);

Kristina Grikietytė, article titleCourt of Justice of the European Union Importance of the Republic of Lithuania“, Kolping University of Applied Sciences (Lithuania);

Giedrius Jonys, article title “The Job Peculiarity of Social Worker in Children Foster Home „Atžalynas“”,Kolping University of Applied Sciences (Lithuania);

Guoda Petruškevičiūtė, article title “Language Role and Cultural Semiotic Approach in Advertisement Translation”, Vilnius university (Lithuania).

The best leading lecturer award was nominated to Ms. Jurga Baltrūnienė, Kolping University of Applied Science, Law department (Lithuania).

This conference was a very valuable experience for all its participants. We hope and believe that this already traditional event will continue to grow and expand in the future, joining more and more young people from even more countries, who aspire to create and to research. When one great aim inspires, it opens hearts filled with goodness, which quickly and easily understand each other.
